Director and writer Ona Korpiranta, born in Helsinki, Finland, December 9th, 1993, began her career as an actress while studying theatre in the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington D.C., USA, in 2009.
After moving back to Helsinki in 2010, her focus shifted to directing documentary theatre. She recently graduated from the BA/MA Directing program of the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki receiving her degree in June 2021.
As a theatre maker Korpiranta is most interested in new plays and modern drama. Sinä päivänä kun Luoja teki isän is her impressive debut play where she shows excellence in storytelling, genre, conveying a theme and in making precise, courageous and touching observations and articulating them. Sinä päivänä kun Luoja teki isän was selected to Tampere Theatre Festival’s main programme in 2020 and 2021. Korpiranta aims to continue her career through writing her own plays and directing new drama texts from abroad.
Korpiranta has worked diversely in different positions in the field of performing arts and deepened her craft as an exchange student in São Paulo Escola de Teatro in 2018 and in the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts where she completed the Shakespeare Summer School in 2017.
